The suspects, Gifty Adjei, 31, a drinking spot operator and Josephine Adwoa Asieduwaa, 35, both residents of Adjei-Kojo, were arrested while selling some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at some drinking spot.
They were also engaged in mixing the hemp with alcoholic beverages.
Superintendent William Daah, Ashaiman Divisional Police Crime Officer, told DAILY GUIDE that as part of measures to bring criminal activities under control, his outfit embarked on swoops after weeks of monitoring.
According to him, on November 27, 2013 about 4:30 pm, the two suspects were apprehended at two separate drinking spots with the narcotic substances.
He said Gifty was found with 86 rappers of the dried leaves which she sold to some persons while others bought alcohol drink mixed with the leaves.
Superintendent Daah further stated that at another drinking spot in the same area, Josephine was also apprehended with a tray of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 11 rappers of the exhibits in her drinking spot.
The Ashaiman Divisional Police Crime Officer noted that both suspects admitted ownership of the suspected narcotic drugs, noting that they deal in the illicit drug for their livelihood.
He mentioned that the substance had been forwarded to police forensic laboratory to ascertain its authenticity while the suspects were being arraigned.
Superintendent Daah appealed to members of the general public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of such deviants in the society.
'Nobody should sit unconcerned because eventually everybody would be affected since those who would patronise the substance might foment trouble when intoxicated,' he said.
